Highlands Vato Update August 17, 2011

Gentlemen: Welcome to the 2011-12 Vato Rugby season. Please get fit and set your schedule to enjoy your rugby with the well respected Highlands Vatos. Learn the game. The  2011-12 schedule is shown above. It is a good and balanced schedule. I am pleased that we will represent Highlands Unviersity an  our region with class and competency. I expect nothing less.

As Hemingway states, "Man is not made for defeat. Man can be destroyed, but not defeated."

Please advise me of your availability. Everyone will have a run.
Our goal is simple: to again advance to the Regional and National Championships with everyone contributing. The better the game, the more the fun and satisfaction.
GET FIT and HARD and learn more about this game of contact and space. Tackle clean and hard. You want the ball going forward - period. Never pass or kick the ball to a static player. Stay on your feet. Be smart, disciplined, and courageous. Take the hit ad set your teammate off with the ball and angles to run. Go support him. We simply want the ball in space on the way to score. It is a simple, very physical game.

Starting positions will be competitive. Coming to training is imperative. Please focus and learn your position. Have a backup player in your positon. It will take commitment to wear the famous Vato black and white rugby jersey.  We want to remain relevant and respected.

Recruit good men to join us. Most importantly, if a student, finish your educational training and degree at Highlands. Two rugby scholarship are available. Be a good citizen. Make everyone proud of you. Do your best with quiet class. Let your record speak for itself. Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

With you,
Coach Dick Greene
