Post Doctoral Fellows Program
The Post Doctoral Fellows Program has significantly strengthened the biomedical research infrastructure at NMHU by providing a measurable increase in our faculty productivity including an improvement in our competitiveness for grants and an increase in our faculty and student publication and presentation rates. This Area of Emphasis has increased the biomedical research activity at NMHU by providing biomedical research laboratories with Post Doctoral Fellows who conduct research in various areas. The Post Doctoral Fellows in our biomedical labs have provided:
- Improved research training for our students and faculty
- New and inspiring mentors and role models for our students
- Current, cutting-edge knowledge of the specific research area
- Increase and improvement in presentation and publication rates
- Needed scientific collaboration and dialog
Dr. Kurt Short is currently a postdoctoral fellow working with Dr. Tatiana Timofeeva in photodynamic cancer therapy. His effort is part of the RIMI Developmental Research Project which enhances not only the ability to conduct research but also to work with students, thereby increasing interest in scientific research, especially for minority students under represented in scientific professions. Mentoring by Fellows also enhanced the likelihood of academic success for students associated with the research.
Dr. Craig Gifford, of the University of Idaho, Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences presented a lecture on “Systemic Response During Early Pregnancy In Domestic Ruminants” on March 26, 2008. Dr. Gifford is also a RIMI Post Doctoral Fellow. Dr. Gifford is a Post Doctoral Fellow as of May 1, 2008 and will be collaborating with Dr .Carol Linder.
