NMHU Center at Rio Rancho
In the 1997-1998 academic year New Mexico Highlands University established an extended learning center in Rio Rancho which began offering upper division undergraduate and graduate courses in business, accounting, MIS, education, and social work. The center continues with classes in those areas and has added studies in general and school counseling, and a new Dual Master’s Degree in Social Work/Business. We offer 300, 400, and graduate level courses for students to complete their bachelor's or master's degrees or obtain licensure in education.
The NMHU Center at Rio Rancho is located in Highlands Park building, 1700 Grande Court, directly west of Intel.
You can get your degree locally! Our programs are unique in that they provide area residents an opportunity to pursue a bachelor's or master's degree or education licensure without having to commute long distances. Courses can be completed through live instruction, interactive television, and the internet. Classes are held in the mornings, late afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays. NMHU has responded to numerous requests to expand educational opportunities in this locale to address needs of residents, businesses, and schools.
If you complete an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree at Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) or any regionally accredited New Mexico institution, the NMHU general education common core, proficiency, and university requirements can be waived. If you have your A.A. or A.S., you can begin working on your program requirements immediately. 128 credits minimum are needed to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree. Fifty-one of the undergraduate hours must be at the 300 and 400 level.
You can take CNM classes while enrolled at NMHU. A consortium agreement
between NMHU and CNM allows you, to be dual enrolled and receive financial
aid for courses taken at both institutions.
