Meet our AWESOME Peer Advisers!
My name is Leon Bustos and I am part of the new student qrientation team! I have been living in Las Vegas, N.M., for the majority of my life and the experiences that I have undergone will travel with me for the rest of my life. I am currently a junior, pursuing my undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in biology. New Mexico Highlands University has offered me a lot of opportunities, not only with my education, but also by helping me become a stronger individual. I feel that the least that I can do for the university is to give back by offering valuable information to our incoming freshman, while also giving them a comfortable welcome to our university.
Hailing from a Mexican family in Los Angeles, Calif., Christopher is an advisor at the New Mexico Highlands University Academic Support office. In his family, Christopher is the youngest of three children. His two loving parents granted him with the opportunity to attend private school during elementary, junior high, and high school. Accepted to Highlands, he plans to obtain his bachelor's degree in human performance and sport. Aside from advising, as an extra circular activity, he plays for the Highlands University Vatos Rugby Club. Because of an athletic history, Christopher enjoys recreational sports, and watching professional sports. In the next year, he plans to graduate and start his career.
I am from the great city of Houston, Texas. I grew up with a good loving family. My mother, father, brother and sister all played huge roles in who I am today. I went to Westbury High School. I ended up coming to New Mexico Highlands University to play basketball and the school itself turned out to be a great experience for me. Currently, I am a junior majoring in biology. I wanted to be a part of this orientation staff because I want to help our school. It’s fun being able to help incoming students and show them why Highlands University is so great.
