Las Vegas, N.M. – Highlands University presents the second Highlands Alumni Art Exhibition through June 28 in the Kennedy Alumni Hall at 905 University Ave.

“We received an excellent response in this second year of the Alumni Art Exhibition, with 23 artists submitting more than 60 works of painting and photography,” said Renee Buchanan, the Highlands Foundation art curator and archivist. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to showcase the fabulous work of our Highlands alumni.”

Buchanan said the artists in the exhibition include both local and out-of-town alumni. She curated the exhibition.

“This exhibition is evidence that our thriving local art community in Las Vegas has a close connection to Highlands,” Buchanan said. “These talented alumni continue to push the boundaries of traditional art, making every exhibit truly unique.”

Buchanan said the majority of the featured artists have exhibited their work in other venues in New Mexico.

“Some of the well-known local artists featured include painters Karlene Martínez, Nacho Jaramillo, and Veronica Black. Some of the photographers include Martha and Joe McCaffrey and Kerri Cottle,” Buchanan said.

Buchanan said the alumni response to the exhibition was even more enthusiastic this year with more artists participating.

“We’re pleased that we’ve established an ongoing tradition,” Buchanan said.

The Highlands University Foundation is sponsoring the Highlands Alumni Art Exhibition. The Kennedy Alumni Hall is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
