NMHU Cowboy News Roundup – May 13, 2010

NMHU Cowboy News Roundup – May 13, 2010

Thank you for making our 5th Annual Golf Tournament a great success!

The US Postal Service has nothing on the dedication of NMHU Alumni. Through snow, rain, hail and blustery wind, all teams finished 18 holes.

Congratulations to Lefty Gonzalez and team for their first place score!

Mark your calendars!

There's upcoming summer fun from the Office of Alumni Affairs. Our Las Vegas alumni chapter will host a “Fiesta” on July 2nd, featuring the Los Tropicales band and other surprises that evening. Keep your eye on this space for further details.

Albuquerque alumni, keep your calendar clear for the end of July. Plans are in the works to have a party down that way, and you wouldn't want to miss it!

And we're planning another bus trip. The last bus extravaganza to see the Cowboys play was so much fun, we have to do it again! Plans are in the works for another road trip, so be ready!

NMHU’s Class of 2010 Graduates

Seventy percent of Highlands University’s graduates May 8 were women.

The capacity crowd at the 2010 commencement ceremony at Wilson Complex cheered the news the day before Mother’s Day.

“What a tremendous and impressive statement,” Highlands President Jim Fries said to applause.

Fries also noted that students on the main campus include 19 tribes, 43 states and 32 countries. He said 40 percent of students are studying at the master’s degree level.

“If I give you a little test and ask you, ‘Which of these four institutions will have graduated the largest number of Hispanic students with a master’s degree? The University of Arizona, Texas A&M, University of Nevada, Las Vegas or New Mexico Highlands University?’” Fries asked.

#7 Cowboys Corral Mesa State Mavericks to Claim RMAC Tournament Title

The #7 NMHU Cowboys held on for the 8-6 win over Mesa State College to claim their third RMAC Tournament Championship under Head Coach Steve Jones. The Cowboys claimed the regular season championship with a win over the Mavericks on 4/23 so it seems fitting that the Cowboys claim the RMAC Tournament Championship over the Mavericks after a hard fought game between the two RMAC powerhouses. Both teams played extremely well throughout the tournament and gave the fans in Kearney, Neb. a showcase of RMAC Baseball. The Cowboys are now 39-11 thus far in the 2010 season and now wait to see who and where they will be playing in the NCAA Central Regional. The NCAA Central Regional will take place 5/13-5/17 at a site that is still to be decided upon by the NCAA.
