John Ramon Vigil is a native of Española pursuing a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in business management. He served three terms on the New Mexico Highlands University student government, with two consecutive terms as president pro-tempore.
No stranger to campus life, Vigil has worked in the offices of Student Affairs and Academic Support. He additionally served on the 2015 Presidential Search Committee that fielded Dr. Sam Minner and recommended him along with five other finalists to the then Board of Regents to be the next leader of the university.
A longtime proponent of New Mexican cultural traditions, Vigil has served on the Española Fiesta Council for many years coordinating the fiesta grounds and the annual community parade there. He can also be found assisting with the tradition of lighting farolitos throughout Española each Christmas Eve.
