Las Vegas, N.M. – New Mexico Highlands launched a new Welcome Center and other campus visit services geared toward prospective student’s individual academic interests.

Crystal Burch is the new campus visit specialist at Highlands.

Burch has worked in higher education for nearly seven years. Previously, she served as Highlands’ admissions specialist in the Office of Student Recruitment and Undergraduate Admissions.

“Our goal is to be more proactive in bringing students to our campus,” Burch said. “This gives them the opportunity to see firsthand what Highlands has to offer, with a focus on their individual interests.”

For example, Burch said prospective students will meet with faculty in departments of interest during campus tours.

“In addition, we’ll also invite students to attend events that showcase our HU students’ work in a wide range of disciplines, from music recitals to media arts shows and science research projects,” Burch said.

Burch will lead a team of Highlands students who will conduct the campus tours.

“Current students can give valuable insight about what it’s like to be part of the Highlands family,” Burch said.

She will also coordinate staffing for the new NMHU Welcome Center in the Student Center, 800 National Ave., Room 110 of the first floor atrium.

Burch, a Las Vegas native, said she will be visiting local high schools to give Highlands greater visibility.

“We want these local students to feel comfortable in their transition to college, and stay in our community to pursue degrees at Highlands,” Burch said.

To schedule a campus tour, reserve a spot online at www.newmexicohighlands.com/tours Or call 505-454-3472 or email campustours@nmhu.edu

Burch’s new position is part of the university’s Office of Strategic Enrollment Management.
