Take Care of Yourself Baby: Getting Exercise
A healthy life style requires one to be physically fit. The greatest benefit one can give oneself is to change from a sedentary life style to doing a total of 15 to 30 minutes of activity a day. This activity does not have to be all at once.
Just 30 minutes of moderate activity a day will help you lose weight, stop smoking, lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose levels. It helps you to feel better, look better, to have a more positive outlook, and to live longer.
A good exercise regime includes warm-up exercises, the exercise, and cool down activities. Warm-up exercises help to gradually increase your heart rate and stretch muscles. Good warm-up exercises include calf stretch, thigh stretch, hamstring stretch, shoulder stretch and chest stretch.
The exercise itself can be any that you prefer. However, walking is one of the best choices for all ages. It provides a strenuous enough exercise for the heart, but unlike running puts very little strain on the knees and legs. Start at a level that is comfortable, it may be no more than five minutes at first. Work up to 20 to 40 minutes three to four times a week. Cool down activities include five minutes of the stretches used for warm-up exercises. |
