I'll Be There For You : Making and Keeping Friends
"Friends"
Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin
I hope the day will be a lighter highway
For friends are found on every road
Can you ever think of any better way
For the lost and weary travelers to go
Making friends for the world to see
Let the people know you got what you need
With a friend at hand you will see the light
If your friends are there then everything's all right
It seems to me a crime that we should age
These fragile times should never slip us by
A time you never can or shall erase
As friends together watch their childhood fly
Before you make friends, you have to decide who you want to be your friends. Most people like to have friends who like to do the same kinds of things they do. That doesn't mean you have to be exactly like each other, just that you enjoy some of the same things. Some tips for making friends. Speak to others: Say "hello" or "good morning." Ask how they are doing and be willing to hear their answer. Some really want to share their lives with you. Respect others. Almost everyone wants to be respected and they will respond well when you are respectful. Join a club or group. This is a good way to find others with similar interests. Groups such as music, band, writing, sports, dance and book clubs allow you to build on experience to form lasting friendships. Wait. Friendships take time to form, so be patient. |
