Las Vegas, New Mexico – New Mexico Highlands presents the Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival performance of Fool for Love Feb. 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m.

Both performances are in Highlands University’s historic Ilfeld Auditorium at 900 University Ave.

“We’re excited to have a play written by Sam Shepard performed at Highlands,” said Donna Martínez, Ilfeld Auditorium manager. “Fool for Love was a finalist for the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.”

The play focuses on the characters May and Eddie, former lovers who have met again in a motel in the Mojave Desert.

The age advisory for the play is 14 and older.

“We welcome the Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival company to Las Vegas for the first time and hope this will be the beginning of a partnership,” Martínez said.

The stated mission of the Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival, affectionately known as FlagShakes, is to faithfully portray classics of the Renaissance as well as produce other actor-driven plays.

According to the Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival website, the festival strives through educational outreach to enlighten its audiences and revitalize empathy.

General admission tickets for the Feb. 1 and Feb. 2 performances are $8. Tickets for Highlands University students with valid IDs are free, and for other students they are $5.
