Ojars is an intensively inventive and driven individual with a mission and purpose seldom encountered  in contemporary art circles. He is a catalyst for contemporary art in Latvia and through out Europe &  the Baltic region ( hosting visiting artists from around the world annually) . Ojars personifies the intense feelings of national identity which resulted from fifty years of Soviet repression of his native land. These feelings most often can be seen in Ojars’ stone carvings  of the landscape features that haven’t changed in millennium. They represent both an homage to the history of Latvia and a celebration of the continuity of life. It was memories of those sculptures that inspired this image of rain on Tucumcari mountain.  The grandeur of nature is especially visible in the American Southwest and serves for many as a reminder of our unique land and history.
