Katrina Condo is the first piece I made as a Sloss metal artist. During Hurricane Katrina I was on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain very close to where the eye of the storm was. The piece represents a floating condo, a safe haven from the rising waters.

My interest lies in the juxtaposition presented by iconic symbolism. This piece references notions of beauty and cruelty, security and destruction. The use of natural objects creates elements of surprise and visual tension when coupled with hard, yet seemingly soft, cast iron. The title is intended to entice the viewer to consider the flip side of our culture’s common cliches.
