For me the process and action of creating is part of the content not merely a means to an end.  The work must be difficult and burdensome as are the ideas and thoughts expressed.  With “Gimmie” I am expressing my concern with the current political and social atmosphere.  I would be remiss as an artist was I to avoid or not acknowledge my political and social consciousness.  Current world events demand my attention, my labor, and my voice.  I have always been fascinated with propoganda and particularly how eagles have been used as symbols for authoritarian and imperialistic regimes.  I believe it is my responsibility to offer my perspective, which is one of resistance and contention.
Iron is not arbitrary; it is the blood of the earth extracted by man through a violent invasive will.  It is the means to create and protect to defend and destroy.  If iron is the blood of the earth then it runs through the veins of our culture.  Casting is not arbitrary; it is the process of setting into motion and manifesting what one believes.  If casting is the process of manifesting belief then it is the object of change.  I am endeavoring to change the rules, to fight and resist.  I am mad and ashamed and feel compelled to make manifest my voice in such a way that must be acknowledged.
