Junior Day April 28 Gives Students a Head Start for College Planning

Las Vegas, N.M. – Junior Day at Highlands University April 28 gives high school juniors an opportunity to jump-start their plan to attend college and enjoy some fun in the sun at the university.

The new event is geared toward students beginning their college search. The day begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Highlands John Wilson Complex, 1241 9th St.

“The ‘Your Plan to Get to College’ experience will give high school juniors the chance to hear what criteria is required for admission and when to start submitting materials,” said Crystal Burch, Highlands campus visitor specialist. “We also have some really fun outdoor activities planned for the students.”

Burch said the juniors will take a campus tour with Highlands students, hear from other Highlands students about why they chose the university, learn about academic programs, and much more.

“We’re partnering with our Highlands Outdoor Recreation Center to showcase the large variety of outdoor equipment current students can check out for free. The visiting juniors will get to try out mountain bikes, knocker balls and other popular outdoor equipment at our Central Park,” Burch said.

The Junior Day will conclude with a Highlands Cowgirl softball game at 1:30 p.m.

“The prospective students will get to cheer on the Cowgirls as they take on Regis University. We’ll be serving up hamburgers and hotdogs courtesy of our Athletic Department,” Burch said.

While it’s not required, Burch said pre-registration for Junior Day at Highlands is encouraged. Visit https://apply.nmhu.edu/register/juniorday18 For more information, contact Burch at 505-454-3472 or email campustours@nmhu.edu
