The copyright law of the U.S. (title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of  copies orother reproductions of copyrighted material from a print or an electronic source. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other production. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study or research". Electronic Resources Licenses 

The Thomas C. Donnelly Library purchases access to Licensed Electronic Resources for the use of NMHU students, faculty, staff and library users only. These resources are protected by copyright and other laws. License agreements usually stipulate the following:

  • Use of material for personal, educational or research purposes only
  • Users may display, download, or print one copy of a reasonable portion (generally 1 or 2 articles per journal, or one book chapter) of the resource
  • Users are not permitted to modify or create a derivative work from the resource
  • Users may not sell or otherwise make commercial use of the resource
  • Do not systematically or massively download or copy any resource
