Las Vegas, N.M – New Mexico Highlands University presents Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles in concert Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the university’s historic Ilfeld Auditorium, 900 University Ave.

Established in 1994, Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles is the first all-female mariachi ensemble in America and is internationally known. The ensemble is known for the sensitivity, beauty, warmth and vivacious spirit it brings to the historic art of mariachi.

“These mariachi women are superb musicians and consummate professionals who have blazed the trail for women in mariachi,” said Donna Martínez, Ilfeld Auditorium manager. “The beauty and power of their music is breathtaking. When they performed in Ilfeld a number of years ago the audience gave them a long standing ovation.”

Martínez said this cultural event celebrates the art form of traditional Mexican dance music.

Mariachi Differencia, a Northern New Mexico ensemble, is the opening act.

Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles had a strong beginning, thanks to the mentorship of Lola Bertran, an acclaimed Mexican recording artist who earned the title La Reina de la Musica Ranchera.

Mariachi Reyna has shared the stage with world-renowned Mexican singers like Guadalupe Pineda and Lucha Villa.

Maestro Jóse Hernández directs Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles. He is an internationally recognized musician, composer and educator.
