Las Vegas, N.M – Music student from Las Vegas school districts and New Mexico Highlands University will share a common stage April 3 for Band Fest 2014.

The concert will be at 7 p.m. in Highlands University’s historic Ilfeld Auditorium, 900 University Ave.

“The audience will have the chance to see and experience the tremendous amount of musical talent that the young people in Las Vegas possess,” said Edward Harrington, the director of bands for Highlands. “This is a wonderful performance opportunity for all three bands.”

Martín Sena directs the Las Vegas City Schools bands and Jose Muñoz directs the West Las Vegas School District bands.

The musicians performing include students ranging from middle school to graduating college seniors.

The school district bands will showcase a variety of music they prepared for band competitions. Some other musical selections include themes from the Disney film Pocahontas, as well as a medley of songs from other popular Disney films.

The Highlands University Jazz Ensemble will perform well-known selections from American jazz giants Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and more.

“Another highlight of this concert is that music education students Dennis Montaño, Marcos Sedillo, and Luis Martínez will also be working with the bands, giving these future educators additional experience working with young musicians.”

The $5 ticket price will go to help the three schools’ music programs.
