Highlands Marks World Suicide Prevention Day Sept. 10

Las Vegas, N.M – The New Mexico Highlands University Suicide Prevention Program marks World Suicide Prevention Day, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., with an event in the university’s Central Park.

There will be suicide prevention information, free food, and prizes. Yellow is the color for suicide prevention and yellow balloons will be released at the end of the event.

Highlands University student clubs are encouraged to create a suicide prevention flag and enter it into a competition. The winning club will be awarded $100.

State and local organizations participating with resource tables at the event include the New Mexico Suicide Intervention Program, Sangre de Cristo Community Health Partnership, San Miguel DWI Program, New Mexico 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Victim Assistance Unit, New Mexico Adult Protective Services, and Adolescent & Family Services.

The university’s Campus Suicide Prevention Program and Campus Violence Prevention Program will also be on hand with information tables.
