Town and Gown Photography Show Opening Reception April 7

Las Vegas, N.M. – Highlands University presents the third annual Town and Gown Photography Show in Kennedy Alumni Hall, 905 University Ave., with an opening reception April 7 from 1 – 3 p.m.

The exhibit features the work of the university’s Media Arts and Technology Department students as well as the Meadow City Camera Club.

“The media arts students bring new and creative ideas for interpreting subject matter,” said Martha McCaffrey, Meadow City Camera Club member. “This collaboration helps keep everyone’s approach to photography fresh.”

McCaffrey, a photographer of 39 years, said the joint photography show is an opportunity to further build the relationship between the community and Highlands.

“In addition, it’s a wonderful chance for the media arts students to display their work and for the community to see this exceptional work. The featured class is Digital Photography, which includes undergraduate and graduate students,” McCaffrey said.

McCaffrey said more than 60 photographs were submitted for consideration.

“The media arts students studied the distinctive styles of well-known photographers ranging from Ansel Adams to Imogen Cunningham. Then the students took their own innovative photographs based upon the styles of these legendary photographers,” McCaffrey said

She said the Meadow City Camera Club’s work will focus primarily on a wide range of landscape and wildlife photography this year.

“For example, the club features photography from White Sands National Park and Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, and scenes from Louisiana to Japan,” McCaffrey said.

The Town Gown Photography Show continues through April 30. The exhibit in Kennedy Alumni Hall is open Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
