At the invitation of a teacher, a participating scientist will visit a class or school to present a lecture and/or demonstration on a topic in his area of expertise. You may wish to involve your students in the selection of the guest lecturers. There are NO COSTS to the school except perhaps lunch for the visitor, if this is appropriate.

To request a Visiting Scientist, simply fill out a Visit Request Form provided, and return it to us for processing. We will contact the requested scientist and confirm his/her acceptance of your invitation. Be sure to obtain your principal's approval so that the visit will be noted on his/her schedule as well. You may wish to take the visitor to meet your principal and other members of your staff when he/she is at your school. In order that the visit may be as enjoyable and as successful as possible, it might be best for you to write or call your visitor when his/her visit has been confirmed to inform him/her of such detail as:

  1. the subject(s) on which you would like him/her to talk;
  2. the number of classes you would like him/her to meet, and the times they meet;
  3. the level and the extent of the background which the audience will have;
  4. the location of your school and where he is to go upon his/her arrival:
  5. possible accommodations for an overnight stay, if required.
  6. arrangements for facilities and equipment, which may be needed, as well as arrangements for a field trip, if involved.

We hope that you will find opportunities to utilize the Visiting Scientist Program this school year and will find the service helpful and worthwhile.
