Las Vegas, N.M – Highlands University presents the Catapult dance company’s “Magic Shadows” performance March 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the university’s historic Ilfeld Auditorium, 900 University Ave.

Catapult performed on season eight of NBC-TV’s “America’s Got Talent” competition in 2013, earning its way to the finals. The innovative dance company has been touring worldwide ever since.

“We’re fortunate to be part of this unique and talented shadow dance company’s tour,” said Donna Martínez, Ilfeld Auditorium manager. “Come join us for a dynamic evening of entertainment for all ages.”

Catapult is a theatrical art form that is a combination of dance, storytelling and shape transformation. The Catapult dancers work behind a screen to create dancing shadow silhouettes.

Adam Battelstein, dance choreographer and creative director, founded Catapult in 2009. The New York Times calls Battelstein “a comic genius.”

In Europe, Catapult has developed a following with numerous repeat performances in Germany and Italy.

German dance critic Barbara Glowatzki wrote, “With superb body mastery and acrobatic dynamism, Catapult presents its colorful game of shadows and iridescent body art to perfection.”

Jutta Schreiber-Lenz, another German dance critic, wrote, “The supple dancers in Catapult create vivid pictures on a giant canvas.”

General admission tickets for the Catapult “Magic Shadows” performance are $15. Children 10 and younger are $10. Highlands University staff and faculty as well as seniors 65 and older are $12. Highlands students with valid HU IDs are free while local other students with valid IDs pay $12.
