Counseling Clinical Experinces

Clinical Practice

The practicum is designed to provide you with 100 hours of valuable in-field experience. Forty of these hours are in direct service with clients, giving you a hands-on education in real-life settings.

With the internship, you’ll have 600 hours of in-field experience within your chosen concentrations, and 240 hours of direct service with clients. Both the practicum and internships build counseling skills and allow practice within a theoretical framework, all while you are supervised by a working professional in the field.

These are great opportunities. Many of our students are hired at the facilities where they did their practicum and/or internships after graduation.

Experiential Learning Cloud (ELC)

ELC (formerly Tevera) is an online platform designed to facilitate necessary Practicum and Internship processes, collect and manage data, and assist with program outcomes reporting. Registration with this platform is mandatory for all Counseling students. Each student will be charged a one-time course fee of $260 during their first semester through their NMHU student account. This will grant them access to the platform for life. The bookstore will distribute access codes via email during the first week of class. If a student prefers not to incur charges for registration via their student account, they must follow the bookstore’s opt-out instructions (sent by email) by the due date. After the bookstore’s opt-out deadline, student accounts will be charged for ELC registration and it is non-refundable. If you choose to opt out of the bookstore, you must purchase directly from the ELC site (https://nmhu.tevera.app/#/logon).

ELC will be integral to your Counseling program, serving the following purposes:

  • Knowledge and skills development tracking
  • Site placement processes
  • Time tracking, signature flow processes, and reporting
  • Post-graduation activity tracking and documentation toward licensure
