Las Vegas, NM – Community members who are not currently enrolled at Highlands University can take one free online course for the fall semester.
The free course may be chosen as one of four undergraduate offerings: Indigenous People of North America, Art of the Americas, Aerobic Dance, or Introduction to Native American/Hispano Cultural Studies.
“The pandemic has impacted many people’s lives, so Highlands is providing access to these courses for people who want to think about a different career path, considering college, or to pursue an interesting topic,” said the university’s president, Sam Minner.
Space in each of the courses is limited, and people wishing to enroll in one may go to https://apply.nmhu.edu/register/fall2020freecourses to start the process. The last day to register for courses is Aug. 28.
This is the second time during the Covid-19 pandemic Highlands has offered a free class to community members. In March, the university offered a free online Southwest literature and film course.
The free fall courses begin Aug. 19 and conclude Dec. 11. The Indigenous People of North America course is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-3:15 p.m., Art of the Americas is Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30-1:45 p.m., Aerobic Dance is taught Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:15-6:05 p.m., and Introduction to Native American/Hispano Cultural Studies is taught Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
