Gubernatorial Candidate Gary King at Highlands Oct. 21

Las Vegas, New Mexico — The Highlands University student Political Science Club is sponsoring a political forum with New Mexico gubernatorial candidate Gary King on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

The free public forum will be in the university’s historic Ilfeld Auditorium, 900 University Ave.

Gov. Susana Martínez, a republican running for re-election, is unable to attend the forum due to a scheduling conflict.

King, a democrat, is the current New Mexico attorney general. Debra Haaland, a democrat seeking election as lieutenant governor, will also participate in the forum.

“We’re trying to get more people aware of who they’re voting for and also generate interest in voting, especially among young voters,” said Ryan Armijo, a Moriarty, New Mexico political science senior and president of the Political Science Club.

Armijo said the candidates will field questions about northern New Mexico and the state as a whole. The club encouraged question submittal via its Facebook page.
