Las Vegas, N.M. – People who attended the third annual Highlands Loves Alumni event Feb. 10 helped raise close to $4,000 for student scholarships and recruiting activities.
“We’re excited about the money raised that will make a difference in our Highlands students’ lives,” said Juli Salman, Alumni Office director. “We are so grateful for the connection we make with our community and alumni through this positive Valentine’s Day theme event.”
Proceeds raised from the free and public Highlands Loves Alumni event totaled $3,822. It included both a silent and live auction, with Highlands President Sam Minner calling the bids.
“I’m very thankful for our Highlands alumni and friends who donated auction items to help make this such a successful event,” said Theresa Law, vice president of advancement at Highlands and executive director for the Highlands Foundation.
Salman said that Highlands Loves Alumni showcases the talents of local Las Vegas business entrepreneurs.
“The food prepared by Isaac Sandoval of The Skillet restaurant was creative and delicious,” Salman said. “Sara Mathews of Borracho’s Craft Booze and Brews crafted a signature drink for the event called the 1893 in honor of our 125-year anniversary at Highlands.”
The Smooth Riders Jazz ensemble performed at the event.
Salman said everyone is welcome at the Highlands Loves Alumni event each year.
“You don’t need to be an alum to join the fun, you just have to love Highlands,” Salman said.
