Las Vegas, N.M. – New Mexico Highlands will honor incoming freshmen earning academic scholarships at the university’s Scholars’ Night Banquet April 26.

“This banquet is the highlight of our year in the Highlands Financial Aid and Scholarships Office,” said Susan Chavez, director of Highlands Financial Aid and Scholarships. “We hope the evening these scholars experience at the Scholars’ Night Banquet will be a positive and special memory for them as they move on from high school into their college years.”

New Mexico Highlands President Sam Minner is the keynote speaker for the banquet. His talk will focus on success.

Students from throughout Northeastern New Mexico will be receiving scholarships at the banquet.

According to Chavez, to date Highlands has offered a total of 555 freshmen scholarships and 221 have been accepted. The scholarships range from $500 Incentive Grants to $6,000 Presidential Gold Scholarships.

Chavez said that overall, Highlands has offered 625 academic scholarships totaling more than $1 million dollars for the 2019-2020 academic year.
