Highlands University Matanza Will Be Ticketed to Ensure COVID-19 Safety Precautions

October 19, 2021

Highlands University is hosting a traditional Matanza event at the Cultural Park and Melody Park on Saturday, October 23 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free activities, including music and food, will begin at 1 p.m.

Attendees to the Matanza this weekend will need to have tickets. A limited number of tickets are available to ensure adherence to COVID-19 social distancing and safety protocols. Tickets are free and will be limited to two per person on a first-come first-served basis. Tickets can be picked up on the Highlands campus in the Communications Building, Room 111 or Douglas Hall, Room 136.

In addition to tickets with meal times, attendees at the Matanza will be encouraged to socially distance, and all attendees will be required to wear face coverings when not eating. Tickets will have eating times printed on them to coordinate food service and ensure distancing.

“NMHU is happy to host this community event. We ask everyone to follow COVID protocols—wear a mask if you are not eating, maintain social distancing, and wash your hands frequently—and to enjoy themselves safely,” said Brandon Kempner, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and director of Emergency Operations. “Tickets are required to receive food.”
