LAS VEGAS, NM – The written word will be the guest of honor for a reception at Highlands University.

The university will publicly launch its HU READS campaign in an April 11 reception to promote the joy of reading. The reception is at 3 p.m.at the Student Center Ballroom and will feature posters of Highlands students, faculty, staff and administrators with their favorite books.

“These posters put a familiar and friendly face on reading and lifelong learning,” said Victoria Berry, a Donnelly Library library associate who helped organize the campaign. “It’s encouraging to see that the peers, professors and people you see every day are reading, too.”

The public is welcome to attend, chat about their favorite books and enjoy light refreshments.

“We have a lot of interesting people at Highlands and in the community, so it’s good to see what they’re reading,” said Donnelly librarian April Kent, who is also working on the campaign. “Anything that encourages people to read is a good thing, and it’s even better when it helps connect people.”
