HU Singers Present My Story April 24, 25

Las Vegas, New Mexico – The Highlands University HU Singers will present My Story April 24 and April 25 at 7 p.m. in the university’s historic Ilfeld Auditorium, 900 University Ave.

Andre García-Nuthmann, director of Highlands University’s choral and vocal program, will direct the musical production and accompany on piano.

“The premise of this show is what I call personal stories, and each song is like a vocal monologue,” García-Nuthmann said. “The music is difficult and demanding. It ranges from funny to sad to poignant to ironic parody. I’m excited for the Las Vegas community to hear these talented young performers sing in a very interesting production.”

The song selection is primarily from the 1989 musical revue Closer Than Ever by David Shire and Richard Maltby, Jr.

Other musical selections are from the feature films Toy Story and Footloose as well as the musical and feature film A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

The Highlands University student cast includes Lisa Cisneros, alto and soprano; Daniel Torres, baritone; Renee Mondragon, alto; Shannon Crespin, alto; TJ Harris, baritone; Kaylee Norman, alto; Christina Mbdabi, soprano; Nathan Torres, tenor; Estrella Gutierrez, alto and soprano; and Ron Martínez, tenor.

The vocal performance includes the full ensemble, solos, and duets. There are also a number of dance numbers choreographed by TJ Harris.

Mike Campbell, Las Vegas City Schools choir director, will accompany on drums.

Tickets for My Story are $5 for general admission. Highlands University students with valid IDs are free.
