HU Singers Presents Blast From the Past Musical Production April 28-29

Las Vegas, N.M. – The Highlands University HU Singers presents a Blast From the Past April 28 at 7 p.m. and April 29 at 3 p.m. in the university’s historic Ilfeld Auditorium at 900 University Ave.

The musical production features an extravaganza of different styles of popular music from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

Andre García-Nuthmann, director of Highlands University’s choral and vocal program, is the music director for the production and will accompany on piano. Theater faculty member Don Evans is the artistic director for the production and Nicolas Evans is the stage manager.

“I’m excited for the Las Vegas community to hear these talented young performers sing in a high energy and crowd-pleasing production that celebrates memorable musical highlights from these four decades,” García-Nuthmann said.

The musical selections from the featured decades include:

  • 1950s – “The Oldies But Goodies,” “Rock Around the 50s,” “Lolipop,” and “Unforgettable.”
  • 1960s – “My Girl,” “These Boots are Made for Walking,” “Let it Be,” “Ring of Fire,” “Stop! In the Name of Love,” “Proud Mary,” and “Viva Las Vegas.”
  • 1970s – “Forever Motown,” “Stand by Your Man,” “Who’s Loving You,” “Living for the City, “Barracuda,” “Last Dance,” “Benny and the Jets,” “Beth,” and “Old Time Rock and Roll.”
  • 1980s – “Respect,” “Faithfully,” “Black Velvet,” “Harden My Heart,” “Hysteria,” “Time After Time,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

The cast of vocalists for the HU Singers includes Beth Alderette, Lisa Cisneros, Maria Cardenas, Cierra Gomez, Autumn Woods, Lynette Melendrez, Kylee Norman, Taj Mathis, Jerrod Moton, Donaciano Vigil, Estela Martinez, Chris Soveranez, Ron Martínez, Miranda Andrego, Alfredo Mondragon, and John Ortiz.

Most of these vocalists are Highlands University music students and are featured in solos, duets and other arrangements.

Other accompanists for the HU Singers performance include Highlands music professor Edward Harrington on bass, along with Highlands students Jamie García on trumpet and Alfredo Aragon and Danny Sharp on guitar. Community member Mike Campbell is the percussionist.

Tickets for the HU Singers’ Blast From the Past musical production are $5. Students with valid ID are free.
