The Highlands University madrigal choir will be performing “All About Music and Song” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14 at Ilfeld Auditorium. The concert is free, and masks will be required of singers and attendees.

According to André García-Nuthmann, director of the choral program at Highlands, the concert will feature the madrigal choir as well as eight solos by music students.

García-Nuthmann said the concert will include a wide variety of music, including a modern song reminiscent of Handel, a jazz piece, and a Christmas song.

“We’re also doing a couple of acapella pieces that are quite recently composed but still use traditional harmonies—they’re haunting pieces, really beautiful,” said García-Nuthmann. “Near the end there’s going to be a tenor trio from Guys and Dolls and we’re ending with an African version of the Lord’s Prayer called ‘Baba Yetu,’ which is sung in Swahili.”

Some of the featured soloists include Karliz De Marco, Jordan Jones, Dominique Gallegos Garcia, and Marshall Moore. Em Krall will be accompanying the singers on piano and Mike Campbell will be playing drums.

“It’s basically a celebration of music,” said García-Nuthmann. “I want to celebrate that we’re actually doing live music in front of live people, which we haven’t been able to do for almost two years at this point.”
