Las Vegas, N.M – The New Mexico Highlands Staff Advisory Senate elected a new slate of officers in January to lead the organization in the new year.
Adele Ludi is the new Staff Advisory Senate president. The Highlands alumna is the technology support services manager for Information Technology Services.
“The purpose of the Staff Advisory Senate is to represent all staff at Highlands, including the classifications of administrative and professional, technical, clerical, and maintenance,” Ludi said. “We are a voice for staff regarding issues and decisions related to staff at university meetings such as the Board of Regents and Executive Management Team.”
Ludi said that part of the Staff Advisory Senate’s mission is to serve as a staff organization for shared governance at the Highlands main campus in Las Vegas and the university’s centers across New Mexico.
“One of our immediate goals for Staff Advisory Senate is to fill two vacant positions in the maintenance staff so we can more fully represent all staff,” Ludi said.
Other new staff senate officers include Doris Gallegos, vice president, administrative assistant, Information Technology Services; Inca Crespin, treasurer, assistant registrar, Registrar’s Office; Anne Bradford, senior administrative assistant, Housing Office; and Marcy Silva, parliamentarian, help desk technician, Information Technology Services.
Ludi said the Staff Advisory Senate also participates in campus-wide initiatives such as Power of Service, which aims to enhance customer service provided at Highlands.
Other members of the 12-person Staff Advisory Senate include Yvette Wilkes, director, Housing and Student Conduct; Victoria Evans, director, Anthropology Laboratory, and anthropology instructor; Iliana Ortiz, graduate affairs coordinator, Graduate Studies; Laird Thornton, systems/network administrator, Information Technology Services; and Sharon Doom, student support specialist, Farmington Center.
The Staff Advisory Senate is elected by Highlands employees and meets monthly. Highlands employees may communicate ideas and concerns with the Staff Advisory Senate by attending a meeting, sending an email to staffadvisorysenate@nmhu.edu, or contacting Ludi directly at 505-454-3281.
