Partnership Provides Bus Service Between Mora and Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NM – A ten-month pilot project for a bus route between Holman, New Mexico and Las Vegas will begin Dec. 17 thanks to a partnership between Highlands University, the city of Las Vegas, Mora County and Luna Community College.

The North Central Regional Transit District’s Blue Bus will service 11 stops along the route from Holman to the Las Vegas Amtrak station, including the Holman and Mora post offices, Mora Valley Health Services, Walmart, Alta Vista Hospital, Luna Community College, the Las Vegas Plaza and Highlands University.

“I’m proud Highlands University is a partner in this important project,” said the university’s president, Sam Minner. “This service will help community members from all walks of life with their transportation needs.”

The fare-free service on the route will start with two round trips per day on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“We recognized a real need for public transit to serve the community here in Mora,” said Mora County Commissioner Veronica Serna. “To be able to provide access to educational opportunities at Highlands and Luna as well as employment, shopping, medical and social services in Las Vegas is a huge benefit to our residents.”
