Las Vegas, New Mexico – New Mexico Highlands presents the State Street Ballet performance of Cinderella April 13 at 7:30 p.m. with a children’s matinee April 14 at 2 p.m.

Both performances are in Highlands University’s historic Ilfeld Auditorium at 900 University Ave.

Now in its 23rd season, State Street Ballet Santa Barbara is an internationally acclaimed company of professional dancers from around the world. Since 2005, the California dance company has toured Cinderella to sold-out audiences.

“This State Street production of Cinderella is a lighthearted retelling of the beloved fairy tale with spectacular choreography, opulent sets, and hilarity,” writes one critic.

The State Street Cinderella production is known for the beauty of its musical score by Sergei Prokofiev, a 20th century Russian composer. It features original choreography by Rodney Gustafson, State Street founder and artistic director, with additional choreography by Marina Fliagina.

“State Street’s Cinderella has a reputation for appealing to audiences of all ages and ballet knowledge,” said Donna Martínez, Ilfeld Auditorium manager. “This production is a wonderful opportunity for our Highlands University students and the community to experience a world-class ballet company present a timeless fairy tale. It’s exciting that young local dancers from Mrs. Sarah’s Jazz and Ballet dance company are featured in the performance.”

Martínez said State Street Ballet uses the latest digital animation techniques with its sets to help bring the Cinderella show to life for audiences.

The set design is by Jean-Francois Revon with A. Christina Giannini designing the costumes. Sammy Jelinek is the lighting designer and Stefania Piazzo is the scenic artist.

“Previously, State Street Ballet performed The Nutcracker and Jungle Book at Highlands. I keep working with this high-caliber dance company because it’s always well received,” Martínez said.

General admission tickets for the April 13 performance are $20. Children 10 and younger are $10. Seniors, Highlands faculty and staff, and other students are $15. Highlands University students with valid IDs are free.
