Students Climb Legendary Hermit’s Peak

The longstanding New Mexico Highlands University tradition of climbing the legendary Hermit’s Peak near Las Vegas was rekindled Aug. 30 when 16 students hiked the trail.

Mary Frances Herrera of the International Student Office and John Bentley of the Campus Life Office organized the hike.

“It was a hard hike, uphill for all five miles,” said Herrera, the international student coordinator who joined the students on the hike. “But the students told me how much fun they had, and many want to do the hike again. The views are beautiful from the top of the peak.”

International Student Education Director Tina Clayton and Herrera’s husband, Mark Herrera, also hiked with the students.
