Visiting Art Professor Eddie Dominguez at Highlands University

Nationally known artist Eddie Dominguez is working with fine art students on the Highlands University campus as part of the new Nina Tesla Ballen Visiting Professor Gift Program. The program includes events for the public.David Lobdell, Fine Art Department professor and program coordinator, said Dominguez is the first to visit the Highland’s campus as part of the new visiting professor program. The program will allow Highlands to host visiting professors from different academic disciplines.”I’m hoping when students see a practicing artist who’s willing to take creative risks, they will learn alongside me,” Dominguez said. “I think these kinds of programs at universities are fantastic, and I’m happy to be part of this one at Highlands.”Dominguez, a native of Tucumcari, N.M., is known for his innovation in ceramic sculpture, printmaking, multimedia installation, and public art. He is a fine art professor at the University of Nebraska, where he has taught ceramics for the last 10 years.During his two-week visit to Highlands University, Dominguez will work with students in studios for ceramics, printmaking, sculpture and the foundry, as well as present lectures.  In addition, Dominguez will give a free public lecture Nov. 18, from 4- 6 p.m., at Ilfeld Auditorium. Also open to the public are demonstrations Dominguez will give Nov. 19 in the Burris Hall ceramics studio, room 103, from 9:30 a.m. — noon, and Nov. 19 in the Burris Hall printmaking studio, Room 112, from 2-5 p.m.  Ilfeld Auditorium is at 900 University Ave. and Burris Hall is at 903 National Ave. in Las Vegas on the Highlands University campus.For more information, call the Highlands University Fine Art Department at 505-454-3024.
