Milestone Hispanic-American Women Film "Before We Say Goodbye" Free At Ilfeld Jan. 14
New Mexico Highlands University presents a milestone film about the life of Hispanic-American women, "Before We Say Goodbye," at the university’s Ilfeld Auditorium Jan. 14 at 1 and 7 p.m.
Both showings are free to the public in historic Ilfeld at 900 University Ave. There is also a public reception for the film from 4 – 6 p.m. at the university’s Margaret Kennedy Alumni Hall, 905 University Ave.
"Before We Say Goodbye" is based on Northern New Mexico Latina playwright Patricia Crespin’s play, "We Are Hispanic Women…. OK?" The 2010 movie has received critical acclaim and has been called an accurate, unvarnished portrayal of Hispanic-American life.
Donato Sena New Chief of Police and Security Department at Highlands
New Mexico Highlands hired Donato Sena as its new chief of the Police and Security Department. Sena brings 40 years of distinguished law enforcement experience to his new position.
Sena, a Las Vegas native, started his career with the City of Las Vegas as a patrol officer in 1971, rising through the ranks to commander of criminal investigations before being appointed chief of police in 1983. He served as chief until his retirement from the force in 1991.

The photography of Sean Weaver and Paul F. Moloney is featured in the ‘Wandering Lens’ exhibit at the New Mexico Highlands University Ray Drew Gallery that opens with an artists’ reception Jan. 18 from 5 – 7 p.m.
The Ray Drew Gallery is in the university’s Donnelly Library at 802 National Ave. The photography exhibit continues through Feb. 17.
Moloney is an internationally known award-winning photojournalist. He has had a distinguished career spanning more than 50 years at the Greeley Tribune in Greeley, Colo. He also taught photography at the Colorado Institute of Art and photojournalism at the University of Colorado-Boulder.

Cowgirls Finish Weekend Road Swing 0-2
The Highlands Cowgirls dropped two games on the road over the weekend. The Cowgirls would fall to nationally ranked powerhouse #3 Fort Lewis College 66-33 on 1/7 and would then fall to the Grizzlies of Adams State College 82-70 on 1/8. The Cowgirls are now 5-11 on the season and 2-8 in RMAC play.

Cowboys Drop Two on the Road
The Highlands Cowboys wrapped up a rough road series on 1/8 as they finished their weekend with a 0-2 mark. The Cowboys fell to Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College on 1/7 by a final score of 94-84 and would then fall to the Grizzlies of Adams State College 96-84 on 1/8. With the two losses the Cowboys fall to 10-4 on the season and 6-4 in RMAC play.
