Co-occurring Disorder is not a healthy recognized disorder. If it is not recognized, assisting clients with addiction into recovery will be problematic. Addiction is usually provoked by an underlying problem. The use of substances is used to medicate the brain and suppress the emotion and underlying stress. It is important that both the mental health issues and the addiction be diagnosed at the same time.
