The NMHU Sustainability and Conservation Committee invites you to the 2022 Earth Day Celebration in the Student Union Building. The party kicks off at 9:00 with free coffee and burritos in the ballroom. Then, we will be honored with presentations by world-renowned conservationist Brian Miller and environmental activist, “aural historian,” and accomplished author Jack Loeffler (9:30-10:45, SUB Ballroom). Translating these inspiring talks into action, we will meet in Central Park at 11:00 to get our hands dirty in the campus pollinator garden and cultural park, working together to weed, plant seedlings, make raised beds, and prepare water lines. This hard work will certainly make the free lunch taste better at 12:30 in the SUB Ballroom, as will the serenading of the NMHU Jazz Ensemble. Following this, we will digest our food and some complex sustainability issues during roundtable discussions and faculty lightening talks (2:00-4:00, SUB Ballroom). Finally, at 4:00 Ralph Vigil (Chair of the NM Acequia Commission), Manuel Luna (Legislative Fellow), and ECC Solar will present workshops about how we can all be a bit more sustainable in our day to day lives. Everyone is welcome to any and all events. Let’s all have some fun celebrating the myriad gifts the Earth gives, and in turn help make every day Earth Day at Highlands.
