A family that brings out the best in you
Are you ready to stand in your full power? To be honored for all the qualities that make you YOU?
At Highlands, we offer a different kind of college experience. One where you won’t feel like a statistic. Where the staff cares about your unique situation, goals, and challenges.
That’s because at Highlands, you’re more than just a student. You’re family.
Like a family, we’re invested in your growth. We encourage you to follow your passions, support you through your obstacles, and provide you with tools, resources, and opportunities to help you grow professionally.
Family is for life
Isn’t it nice to know that someone always has your back? And will continue to support you AFTER graduation, as you navigate the career field?
That’s what family is.
An education without walls
Education extends far beyond the confines of a classroom. Immerse yourself in the lush greenery of Las Vegas, just 45 minutes from Santa Fe. Here you will experience all four seasons, which means you can participate in a range of activities year-round from golf to skiing to mountain biking. Our rec center even provides free equipment!
Education is also about interacting with people from all walks of life. We are proud to be named by U.S. News & World Report as one of the most diverse regional universities in the Western United States.
Our diversity is more than just cultural and ethnic. Your classmates will be veterans, mothers and fathers, and those who have been in the career field for years. This will open you up to a full spectrum of perspectives, enriching your college experience.
Browse through our website, and you’ll see one word come up again and again. That word is mentor.
Monte Roybal, computer science graduate and father of three, says, “Dr. Gallegos continually pushed me to my intellectual limit…He served as my professor, mentor, role model, and research adviser.”
We get it. Juggling academic, familial, and career demands can be overwhelming. But a mentor will reach out to you, and in doing so, compel you to dig deep within yourself to overcome these hurdles.
Mentors are not just professors and staff members. Your mentors can also be fellow Highlands students, who can help you step out of your comfort zone.
It’s not all books and laptops
At Highlands, we’re well aware of the disconnect between classroom learning and career success. To be competitive in the job market, you must gain skills that exceed textbook learning and rote memorization.
We provide access to state-of-the-art research laboratories and ample hands-on experience, like using drones to perform field work and literally getting your feet wet while exploring water conservation processes.
Our professors are not stuck in their ivory towers but are out in the world, participating in projects that make a difference in our community.
Our dedication shows in the results. In a recent survey of alumni who graduated in 2015 and 2016, 87% stated they were either satisfied or very satisfied with their current jobs.
So are you ready to enter a family who will embrace and support you unconditionally? Who will fight for your success both in your chosen career path and in your personal development?
The future belongs to you, not to the bank
Unlike what happens at other colleges, you won’t graduate thousands of dollars in debt. 93% of Highlands students receive financial aid, with the majority of the aid coming in the form of scholarships and grants that, unlike loans, do not have to be paid back.
Plus, when you apply to Highlands, you’re automatically considered for scholarships. No more filling out endless forms!
