Bachelor of Social Work


B.S.W. PROGRAM

The School of Social Work offers the B.S.W. degree which prepares students for entry-level generalist social work practice. The curriculum requires the completion of 52 credit units of required social work classes.

For students attending on a full-time basis, the program can be completed within two academic years, taking an average of 13 credit units per semester. Students who attend the program on a part-time basis typically complete the program within three calendar years, taking six-nine credits per semester.

B.S.W./M.S.W. combined program (three year program completion)

The school affords undergraduate social work students the opportunity to apply to the graduate/M.S.W. Advanced Standing program at the end of the junior year. If admitted, students enroll into one of the M.S.W. program concentrations upon completion of the B.S.W. degree and can complete the M.S.W. within two academic semesters.

Community College Transfers

Students who have completed their associates degree from a community college, and have completed the New Mexico educational required core classes, may transfer to Highlands to purse their B.S.W. degree. Highlands has formal agreements will most New Mexico community colleges to accept the transfer of course credit as a means of facilitating the student’s transfer.

The B.S.W. program is offered at the following program locations:


Highlands main campus, Las Vegas, New Mexico
Rio Rancho/Albuquerque, New Mexico
Farmington, New Mexico (San Juan Community College)
Roswell, New Mexico (Eastern New Mexico University)

Each program location offers the same classes and have varying class schedules to accommodate the needs of the students within the geographic area. Classes are offered during the day, evenings and weekends, which affords students the opportunity to attend on a part-time or full-time basis while maintaining work and family responsibilities.

Students interested in the B.S.W. program must apply for admission to the university and meet all the core course requirements as listed in the university’s undergraduate catalogue.
