Las Vegas, New Mexico – The New Mexico Highlands Fine Arts Department presents the 2018 Student Art Show with an artists’ reception Dec. 7 from 4 – 7 p.m.

The exhibition is in the university’s Burris Hall Gallery at 903 National Ave. and is already on display.

“The student show is a snapshot of what’s being produced in our fine arts studios,” said David Lobdell, Highlands fine arts professor and chair for the Visual and Performing Arts Department. “The public will have the chance to see painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, jewelry and drawing. It’s a showcase of some outstanding work.”

Lobdell said the exhibition demonstrates the Fine Arts Department’s openness to diverse ideas and processes.

“There’s a wide range of subject matter in the different mediums with works based upon Greek mythology, nature, biblical references, personal narratives, and more,” Lobdell said.

A silent auction of the students’ artwork begins Dec. 6 and concludes Dec. 7 during the artists’ reception. The Burris Hall Gallery is open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“The silent auction generates funding for the Fine Arts Club’s spring 2019 visit to art museums in Washington, D.C.,” Lobdell said.
