Ilfeld Auditorium Renovations

Van H. Gilbert, Architect

In 1996, the historic Adele Ilfeld Auditorium was renovated.

This 75 year old sandstone landmark has borne the test of time. Closed for more than a year for renovations, the 706-seat auditorium returned late 1996 as the only major theatre in Northern New Mexico and a premier contemporary performance arts center. Restored and modernized, Ilfeld Auditorium still retains the old-world charm, classic beauty, and distinctive architectural features that have distinguished it since it was built in 1914.State assistance, totaling $950,000 funded the major portion of the Ilfeld Auditorium work; restoration included new lighting and sound systems, new stage rigging, complete balcony renovations, and accommodations to fulfill the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
We kindly request that you, as patrons and admirers of Ilfeld, participate in her restoration. Historically authentic seats can be purchased for $300 each; these offer comfort, beauty, and the opportunity to honor a teacher, friend, or loved one. Engraved brass plaques will adorn your seats, providing lasting tribute to friends of Highlands, Las Vegas, and supporters across the state and the nation.
