Ilfeld Auditorium Renovations: Van H. Gilbert, Architect

This 106-year-old sandstone building is a Las Vegas landmark. The 727-seat auditorium was closed more than a year for renovations, and reopened in late 1996. State assistance totaling $950,000 funded most of the Ilfeld Auditorium work. Restoration included new lighting and sound systems, new stage rigging, complete balcony renovations, and accessibility to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Ilfeld Auditorium is one of the few major theaters in Northern New Mexico, and is a stunning contemporary performance arts center. Ilfeld still retains the old-world charm, classic beauty and distinctive architecture it has had since it was built in 1914.
