The Center for Professional Development and Career Readiness

We assist students and alumni with career planning. We can help you find internships related to your major and learn effective job search skills that showcase your classroom knowledge and skills, extra-curricular activities, work and volunteer experiences. We can even help you make connections with regional and global employers!

The Center for Professional Development and Career Readiness is dedicated to helping you succeed while you are at Highlands and after you graduate into the professional world.

You’ve invested in us — we’re investing in you, too.

Services we offer:

Skills First Logo

SkillsFirst is a career management system with modules and custom templates to create resumes, cover letters, and career portfolios; and practice mock interviewing skills.  Students and recent graduates can log into SkillsFirst using their NMHU credentials and use any of the 500+ templates to strengthen their materials.

Handshake logo

The Handshake job platform creates a space for NMHU Students and Alumni to seek professional opportunities. Handshake connects users with employers, source jobs and internships, find event information, and register for on-campus recruiting opportunities. Employers also utilize Handshake as a recruitment tool, to identify qualified candidates for open positions and manage on-campus recruitment activities.

  • Apply to professional opportunities directly from the Handshake
  • Source jobs, internships and event information
  • Identify and R.S.V.P. for on-campus recruiting opportunities
  • Customize your profile – add links to portfolio, social media

  • Recruit qualified candidates for open positions
  • Manage on-campus recruitment events

It’s not just about the books!

Engage@HU is a one-stop shop for all students to discover unique opportunities at Highlands to make the most of their college experience! Here, you can find and RSVP to events, join and contact clubs/organizations, and participate in out-of-class learning experiences that support professional development and career readiness.
