Important Financial Aid Notice

The 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form is now available. You can complete the FAFSA form at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.

Many students and families have been experiencing issues with the new FAFSA, such as problems with contributors trying to input their information or screens freezing. The Department of Education is currently working to fix the issues. Until these issues can be resolved, please be award that you may encounter challenges when filling out your 2024-2025 that begins with the Fall 2024 semester. The NMHU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will provide updates on this page for continued guidance as more information is made available by The Department of Education.

2024-2025 FAFSA Simplification Act Update

 

The 2023-24 FAFSA is available October 1, 2022 through June 30, 2024 for Fall 2023, Spring 2024 and Summer 2024. The free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is online at https://studentaid.gov. The FAFSA must be completed every year to be eligible for Federal Aid. These funds include the Pell Grant, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Federal Work Study and Direct Student Loans.

Financial aid and scholarships FAQs

Where do I submit my financial aid documents that are being requested by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships?
Please submit all requested documents to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships via email at financialaid@nmhu.edu. Once we receive your documents, we will send a confirmation email to you or your parent. If we need more information, we will email you.

When will my financial aid disburse to my student account?
Financial aid disbursements are on the third week of classes for each semester. Reimbursements will be available starting on the third Friday of the semester if your financial aid file is complete. Disbursements are posted to student accounts on Wednesdays for the remaining semester, and reimbursements are available on Fridays. Inquiries related to reimbursements should be sent to the Student Accounts Receivable Office at sar@nmhu.edu or by calling 505-454-3444. Disbursement Dates

When are loan disbursements?
Two term loans (fall/spring) are disbursed into two disbursements. The first disbursement is in the fall semester and the second disbursement is in spring semester. One-term loans (spring only, summer only) are disbursed in two disbursements as well. The first disbursement is disbursed when the loan is processed and second disbursement at mid-terms.
