Student Services

Bookstore: Textbook returns

We have had to implement new procedures on how we will be collecting/accepting rentals due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For questions, contact Bookstore@nmhu.edu.

Textbooks rentals are due May 8, 2020. Below are options for returning textbooks:

By mail:

Please note that the Las Cruces address is correct.

Include a piece of paper with Name, Student ID number, and telephone number. Email tracking information to Bookstore@nmhu.edu. Must be postmarked on or before May 8, 2020.

Drop off in Las Vegas at the following times only: May 7-8, 2020 from 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.

We will be set up in the ticket booth in the Student Union Building.
Students will enter from the north side of the SUB (near the ballroom).
Only three students will be allowed inside the SUB atrium at a time.
Barriers will be set with marked 6 feet distance as they wait in line outside.
Students will exit through the south side of the SUB (near the C-store).


Applying to New Mexico Highlands University

Due to the difficulties in obtaining official records during the COVID-19 outbreak, we will now be accepting admissions documents in the form of screen shots and unofficial records. Documents can be sent to admissions@nmhu.edu for admissions processing.

Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships

Our offices are closed until further notice. We appreciate your patience at this time and value our students. Our office staff are working remotely and are continuing our daily processes. We ask that you communicate with us by email only at financialaid@nmhu. Due to the sensitive nature of the information we process, all documents should be submitted by email to financialaid@nmhu.edu. You can log into your self-service portal to see the updates. We will also answer any inquiries you may have within a 24-hour period.

Admissions Office

The Office of Admissions is open our normal business hours Monday-Friday,  8 a.m. to 5 p.m., though we are only accessible by email admissions@nmhu.edu and by phone (505) 454-3394 until further notice. We are still here to help you enroll in Highlands!

Staff and students who need help must leave a voicemail with their contact information so we can return their call and support them. All voicemails left at the 3394 line will be sent to our admissions@nmhu.edu inbox. This way, we will find your voice messages quickly.

Registrar’s Office

The Office of the Registrar will remain available to provide support for students, faculty, staff, and administrations while working from home. Support staff will be available by email and telephone (if a staff member is available in the office to answer the telephone). Please allow up to 24 hours for email responses.  In-person support will not be available.

Academic Support

ARMAS

The ARMAS center has resumed full online operations as of 3/30/2020.  All ARMAS staff are available via email/phone during regular business hours. In addition, academic support for STEM courses is available to students through Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Supplemental instruction leaders, math tutors, and MSEIP success coaches have reached out to students on their course rosters and formulated course teams.  They will continue to remain in close contact with course instructors and be responsible for conducting online peer mentoring sessions.

Continuing Education Units, School of Social Work 

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions in our state, NMHU School of Social Work Continuing Education Program will try to offer their continuing education workshops via Zoom.

Each workshop offered will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis depending on the presenters capabilities and circumstances. Participants who are signed up for any workshops, will be sent an updated email a few days prior to the workshop they are signed up for along with instructions on how to participate via Zoom.

We do advise you to check with your Board(s) to see if they are making any concessions for licensure requirements during this time. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please be safe.

HUE virtual programming and mentoring

The Highlands Undergraduate Enrichment (HUE) will be offering mentoring and tutoring for the rest of the semester through Microsoft Teams. This service is an office 360 product and is available for all students at NMHU! It is a virtual space that will allow you to seamlessly continue receiving mentoring and tutoring as we wrap up the final six weeks of the semester.

Remember, we’ll be here to support you in any way that we can! For students who have peer mentors in your courses,  you have been added to a Microsoft Team that the Peer Mentor has created. If you do not see a team affiliated with the course that you are taking, please email the Interim Director of the HUE program, Leon Bustos, at leonbustos@nmhu.edu so we can ensure that you are registered in the team.

Main campus:

CARES staff on main campus in Las Vegas are currently telecommuting.

CARES staff will be available for individual contact via ZOOM. Students needing this service should call CARES staff at the contact information below for a link. CARES staff will provide programming in the virtual environment. Information regarding programming will be distributed globally via email and CARES social media.

Statewide centers:

CARES staff in the statewide centers will be telecommuting as well. Center staff and students are advised to contact Ms. Burbank directly via email for assistance as needed. Ms. Burbank will provide the appropriate assistance.

Writing Center

This week, beginning Wednesday, April 1st, the Writing Center will reopen as an online tutoring center. We’re busy making preparations to transition to online appointments now and will begin scheduling appointments on Wednesday.

In the meantime, a few things to consider:

  • For now, all appointments will be live via Zoom where you can video/audio conference or call in to discuss your writing with a tutor
  • Also for now, our existing schedule will not change, with all appointments occurring between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday – Friday
  • Scheduling via email (writingcenter@nmhu.edu) is the most reliable method

Please bear with us as we try to adapt to the present circumstances. In the coming weeks, we’ll be trying to figure out how to expand our services based on feedback we receive in the meantime.

Donnelly Library

Career Education and Job Search Resources

  • Appointments are available but will be held virtually! You can schedule an appointment through Handshake or by emailing careerservices@nmhu.edu. You will be given instructions for how to access your virtual appointment via zoom when you schedule it. Drop-ins are not scheduled during this time and will not resume until we are told it is safe to do so.
  • The Career Center website is full of tools to help you begin to clarify your interests, explore careers, and apply for jobs. For example, we can conduct a virtual career interest inventory to ensure you are pursuing the correct major that will facilitate a meaningful and enjoyable career!
